Champions League knockout place secured

Wed 21 January 2026, 22:40|Tottenham Hotspur

As a minimum, we have secured a place in the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League Play-Off round.

With victory over Borussia Dortmund, our points tally jumped to 14 which means we can no longer be eliminated from the competition in the League Phase. That therefore at least secures our place in February's Play-Off round at least.

With one game remaining, whether we take part in the Play-Off round or progress directly to the Round of 16 by finishing in the top eight remains to be determined.

Now all games in matchweek seven have been completed, we know we cannot finish lower than 16th in the League Phase meaning we have secured, as a minimum, a seeded berth in the Play-Off round. This means, if we participate in the Play-Off round, we will play the second leg of the two-legged tie at home.

Meanwhile, we also now know that it is highly likely a win in our final League Phase game - away to Eintracht Frankfurt next week - will be required to earn a top-eight finish as just three points separate the 13 teams currently occupying positions 3rd to 15th.

A victory in Frankfurt would guarantee us a top-eight finish and secure our progress directly to March's round of 16.
