Olivia Holdt stepped off the bench and supplied an assist in Denmark’s 6-1 victory over Olga Ahtinen’s and Eveliina Summanen’s Finland on Friday evening in the first leg of their UEFA Nations League play-off.
Fresh from scoring her first brace in our colours in last Sunday’s 3-0 win over Birmingham City, the midfielder made an instant impact when she was introduced in the 78th-minute.
With her nation already 5-1 up as the game went into stoppage time, ‘Olli’ spotted the run of Sara Holmgaard on the left and played a lovely ball through the forward, who went on to fire home the Danes’ sixth of the evening.
Emma Snerle, Sofie Svava, Pernille Harder, all in the first half, had put Denmark in command before Harder and Holmgaard further extended their advantage. Finland’s Linda Lindstrom grabbed a late consolation goal, but Holmgaard reinstated their five-goal advantage in stoppage time.
That was Olivia’s eight cap for her nation to date.
Eveliina Summanen started the match for Finland but was substituted in the 44th minute – replaced by Olga Ahtinen who went on to complete the rest of the contest.
The two sides meet on Tuesday once again for the second leg of the contest, with Denmark in a comfortable position to earn promotion in the Nations League.
