Young defender Elijah Upson made it an international debut to remember as he stepped off the bench to score a stoppage-time winner for England Under-18s against France on Thursday evening.
The centre-back replaced fellow Spur Jun’ai Byfield in the 63rd minute at St George’s Park to earn his first international cap – and subsequently won the game for the Young Lions with a powerful header in the 96th minute.
That proved to be the only goal of the friendly encounter, as England triumphed 1-0.
Byfield, who started, had earlier made an excellent defensive intervention to keep France at bay.
Tynan Thompson, the third of our players in the squad, came on in the 74th minute.
