Under-21 regulars Luca Williams-Barnett and Rio Kyerematen have been nominated for September’s Premier League 2 Player of the Month award.
The midfield pair shone throughout last month as Wayne Burnett’s side continued their impressive start to the season, which currently sees them up in third, having won five of their six league fixtures so far.
Luca, who also made his first team debut in our recent Carabao Cup win over Doncaster Rovers, scored his first hat-trick at Under-21 level in a stunning 6-3 victory at Leicester City on 19 September, also providing an assist in that game.
Rio showed his versatility by operating as a false nine that night, and contributed two well-taken goals of his own.
He was back in his more familiar central midfield role in the 1-0 home win over West Bromwich Albion a week later, a match in which Luca supplied the corner from which Dane Scarlett set up Jun’ai Byfield for the game’s only goal.
The duo are on an eight-man shortlist for the award, which also includes Aaron Loupalo-Bi and Farhaan Ali-Wahid of Fulham, Joe Belmont of Brighton & Hove Albion, Andre Harriman-Annous of Arsenal, Tudor Mendel-Idowu of Ipswich Town and Romeo Akachukwu of Southampton.
The nominees have been selected by the Premier League Football Development Panel, who will also decide the winner.
