Maite Oroz embarked on a new challenge at the start of the 2024/25 campaign, but it’s one that the midfielder feels she has cherished.

After four years at Real Madrid, where she made 146 appearances for the Liga F side, the Spain international left her home country to take on a new challenge in the Barclays Women’s Super League last summer.

Making her debut in Lilywhite in the WSL season opener against Crystal Palace in September, the 27-year-old made a quick impression at Brisbane Road as she provided the assist for Olga Ahtinen’s stunning strike into the top corner.

Maite went on to complete 19 games in her debut campaign in England’s top flight, registering two assists in those, and while it was a difficult second half of the season for the whole team, she feels she has settled right at home in north London.

It can be difficult moving to a new country and learning a new language, but it has been so good and people have helped me a lot

Reflecting on her first year at the Club, she told us: “It has felt so good, from the first moment with my team-mates, the staff, they were very helpful with me and I’m just so happy to be here.

“It was difficult at the beginning but a lot of people helped me to settle in here. It can be difficult moving to a new country and learning a new language, but it has been so good and people have helped me a lot. It has already been a good experience here.

“Hopefully we can improve next season, we want to win more games and have good energy in the team.”

Asked about some barriers when first joining up with the squad, she added: “The language, for me. The football is also different, but I enjoy it a lot here and I really like it.”
