Duo in Wales squad for World Cup qualifiers

Ben Davies and Brennan Johnson have been selected by Wales for upcoming FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifiers next month.

Head Coach Craig Bellamy named his 27-player squad on Wednesday (28 May) morning as the Dragons resume their European (UEFA) qualification campaign by hosting Liechtenstein at Cardiff City Stadium on 6 June and then face a trip to Belgium in Brussels at King Baudouin Stadium the following Monday (both 7.45pm UK).

During the previous international break in March, Ben helped his nation get off to a winning start in Group J with an assist and a third international goal in a 3-1 home win over Kazakhstan before David Brooks scored a 96th-minute equaliser to salvage a last-gasp 1-1 away draw in North Macedonia.

Brennan heads off to national team duty after finishing as our top goalscorer across the board with 11 goals in the Premier League and 18 in all competitions, with none more special than his trophy-winning strike in the UEFA Europa League Final on 21 May. The 24-year-old currently has 35 caps and five goals for his nation.

Compatriot Ben, who was part of our victorious squad out in Bilbao, is his nation's fourth most-capped player with 94 caps after moving ahead of Neville Southall - and he'll likely captain the side again with Aaron Ramsey not named.

The group winners seal a place at next summer's major tournament in the United States, Mexico and Canada while four remaining spots will be determined by play-offs involving the 12 group runners-up and four teams from last year's UEFA Nations League phase.
