Dorrington is a Scottish Cup winner!

On-loan Alfie Dorrington experienced a rollercoaster of emotions as his Aberdeen side defeated Celtic on penalties to lift the Scottish Cup on Saturday.

Our young defender, who has spent the second half of the season on loan with the Dons, started the showpiece fixture at Hampden Park but was left disappointed after a corner flicked off him and crept into his own net via the post to give Celtic the lead shortly before half-time.

Alfie kept his focus, though, and later saw his side draw level through an own goal at the other end – this one from goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel – before they triumphed 4-3 in the penalty shootout, with the game having ended 1-1 after extra time.

The Academy product completed 80 minutes before being substituted as Aberdeen made a raft of changes, but stood proudly alongside his team-mates as captain Graeme Shinnie lifted the trophy and the celebrations began.

The 20-year-old had played in the previous three rounds, having been on the bench for the Dons’ first game in the competition against Elgin City in January.

During the first half of the season, Alfie was on the bench in three of our Europa League matches before making his Premier League debut in our December win at Southampton.
