Club and Foundation support fundraiser for Enfield cancer charity

Gary Mabbutt and representatives from Tottenham Hotspur Foundation supported a walk in Enfield organised to raise funds for a local cancer charity.

The Nightingale Night Hike is an annual event organised by The Nightingale Cancer Support Centre – one of the most prominent cancer support centres in North London. Participants are sponsored to walk 5km, 10km or 15km in support of the charity’s mission to provide free care for people with cancer, including therapy sessions as well as physical and mental health support.

The event, which took place at the Enfield Civic Centre, began with a warmup led by coaches from the Foundation and featured a record attendance of around 1,300 people turning up to take part. Our very own Ben Davies gave a callout for sign-ups in the lead up to the event via a video message featured on the charity’s Instagram page.

The walkers were set off on their excursion with a claxon sounded by our legendary former captain Gary, who spoke about the importance of the Club being represented at local initiatives such as these.

“The Club and our Foundation are very proud to support the fantastic work of the Nightingale Cancer Support Centre”, he said.

“I have been to this event many times and I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a big turnout. In our community there are a lot of people who are seriously ill and in need of care that they may not be receiving, and that is why events like this are so important.”

Nick Jacobs, CEO of the Nightingale Cancer Support Centre, added: “The Night Hike is our biggest fundraiser. It’s very moving to see hundreds of people turn out to support the charity to ensure local people with cancer have access to vital and free support resources.

“We are proud to be working with Tottenham Hotspur and Tottenham Hotspur Foundation. Their support is immeasurable, not only to help us raise funds, but in reaching more of our community who may need but don’t know about our services.”

The Club is committed to driving positive change in our local area and our Foundation runs health and wellbeing programmes for adults living with cancer.

This includes Move4You, a free programme of physical activity sessions for residents of Haringey, Enfield and surrounding boroughs who have had a cancer diagnosis in the last five years. Move4You won the Best Sports Community Scheme amongst UK football clubs at the Sport Business Awards last year and has been visited by players such as Archie Gray in the past.

Our Foundation also delivers a Shape Up with Spurs exercise programme, with a chair-based session taking place at The Nightingale Cancer Support Centre once a month.
