Monday proved a day for our Matildas on international duty - Charlotte Grant helped Australia Women - nicknamed The Maltidas - to a 4-1 win against Argentina, while Matilda Vinberg was the matchwinner for Sweden Under-23s against Italy.
Charlotte started and played 77 minutes as Australia toppled Argentina in the second of their friendly double-header in Canberra, having won 2-0 in Melbourne on Friday.
Starting right-back, Charlotte created an early chance for Amy Sayer before being involved in the opening goal on 14 minutes. Moving centrally, Charlotte picked out a reverse pass to Kahli Johnson, who in turn crossed for Sayer to fire home.
Charlotte, who claimed an assist on Friday, also carved out a golden chance for Caitlin Foord before being substituted on 77 minutes. Sayer, Emily van Egmond and Michelle Heyman saw Australia home as they continued preparations for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup in Australia in 2026.
Meanwhile, Matilda Vinberg made the difference as Sweden Under-23s met Italy in a friendly in Noceto. Matilda's cross from a quick counter from Italy's corner was handled, and the midfielder was cool as you like from the penalty spot, sending goalkeeper Beatrice Beretta the wrong way for the only goal of the game.
