Internationals | Assist for Summanen as Nations League concludes

Tue 03 June 2025, 23:00|Tottenham Hotspur

The 2025 UEFA Women’s Nations League group phase came to an end on Tuesday evening and there were mixed fortunes for our players for their respective nations in the competition.

In League A, Group One, Lize Kop’s Netherlands missed out qualification to the Nations League Finals after a 1-1 draw with Martha Thomas’ Scotland. Martha was a second half substitute, completing just over half-hour in Tilburg, while Lize was an unused substitute.

Jill Roord got the opener for the Netherlands inside the opening 10 minutes, but that was cancelled out by Kathleen McGovern just before the half-hour mark. Following the result at Koning Willem II Stadion, Martha’s Scotland have been relegated to League B for the next instalment of the tournament.

Amanda Nilden’s Sweden secured their spot in the Finals of the competition after finishing top of Group Four in League A following an impressive 6-1 win over Olivia Holdt’s Denmark. Amanda and Olivia were both unused substitutes for their nations, with Denmark set to compete in a relegation play-off after finishing third in the group.

Sweden will compete in the Nations League Finals alongside Germany, France and Spain, which is scheduled to take place between 20 October to 2 December, 2025.

In League B, Group Three, Eveliina Summanen registered an assist for Finland in their 1-1 draw with Serbia. Following the 3-0 win over Belarus on Friday night, Finland just needed a victory against Serbia to secure promotion to League A and the Boreal Owls put themselves in a strong position in the 70th-minute when Eveliina’s clipped cross to the back post was headed home by Nea Lehtola.

However, with seven minutes left on the clock, an own-goal from Maaria Roth put Serbia on level terms and it ended that way in Helsinki. Finland will now compete in the promotion play-offs, which will be played in October, 2025.

Eveliina played the whole match at the Helsinki Olympic Stadium while Olga Ahtinen, who was also named in the starting XI, completed 79 minutes before being substituted.

Also competing in Group Three is Anna Csiki’s Hungary as they finished third following a goalless draw with Belarus. Anna started from the off in Szeged, Hungary, and went on to complete 53 minutes for her nation.
