Internationals | Danso helps Austria to big win, Donley features for Northern Ireland

Kevin Danso helped Austria kick-off their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign with a 2-1 win against Romania on Saturday.

The defender came off the bench in the second half to see his side home at the Ernst-Happel-Stadion in Vienna in Group H.

Staying with World Cup qualifiers, Micky van de Ven earned his 11th cap when he entered the action midway through the second half as the Netherlands started their campaign with a 2-0 win over Finland in Helsinki in Group G.

Meanwhile, Jamie Donley, who enjoyed such an impressive loan spell at Leyton Orient in League One last term, came off the bench after 61 minutes for his third cap as Northern Ireland lost 2-1 in a friendly against Denmark in Copenhagen - Christian Eriksen with the winner for the hosts.

It's all eyes on Pedro Porro on Sunday as Spain take on Portugal in the UEFA Nations League Final in Munich.
