Guglielmo Vicario and Kevin Danso took time out to embrace local history and traditions during a cultural tour of Seoul.
The pair visited the King Sejong statue dressed in the ‘hanbok’ – supplied by Cham Hanbok - an outfit once part of the daily attire in Korean society that is still used to mark special occasions, including holidays like Seollal (Lunar New Year) and Chuseok (Harvest Festival), as well as family events such as weddings.

Kevin, Vic embrace local traditions during cultural tour of Seoul
• Guglielmo Vicario and Kevin Danso donned the traditional Korean dress – the hanbok – during a cultural tour of Seoul today
• The duo took part in a visit to the King Sejong statue that honours one of Korea’s most revered monarchs
• It is Club tradition to celebrate local culture wherever we visit on overseas tours
King Sejong was the fourth king of the Joseon Dynasty of Korea, reigning from 1418 to 1450, and is celebrated for his contributions to the advancement of Korean science, literature and education, including the creation of the Korean alphabet.
The statue of the monarch our players visited is located on Yeouido Island in the Yeongdeungpo District and was erected in 1999 to commemorate the 600th anniversary of King Sejong’s birth.
Vicario said: “It was an amazing moment to see the statue of King Sejong whilst dressed in the hanboks – we feel even more connected to the wonderful people of Korea.”
Kevin Danso said: “This is my first time in Korea and so to have the opportunity to learn more about the history of the country with this cultural tour was fantastic. I particularly enjoyed learning about King Sejong’s influence on education through the development of the Korean alphabet.”
Embracing local culture and history has always been an integral part of the Club’s overseas tours, and we understand the importance for our Korean-based supporters to see their Club active and visible at significant landmarks.
