Richarlison named inaugural Premier League Player of the Week

Wed 20 August 2025, 18:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Richarlison has been named the Premier League's Player of Matchweek One after his decisive performance in Saturday's opening day 3-0 win over Burnley.

The forward, who had impressed in Udine during the week as Paris Saint-Germain edged us in the UEFA Super Cup, was selected again to lead the line and once more, he did not disappoint.

Opening his and our account for the season with just 10 minutes on the clock, sending home the ball with a fine volley, the forward then struck on the hour mark with an effort which will undoubtedly be in the running for Goal of the Season - acrobatically sending the ball home with a scissor kick after all 11 of our players had played the ball in the build-up.

He even played a roll in our third, flicking the ball over the head of Clarets defender Maxime Esteve in the centre of the park to release Pape Matar Sarr before he threaded in Brennan Johnson who, in turn, finished it with aplomb.

And now Richy has been honoured for that stunning performance - and it's all thanks to your votes.

Yesterday, we put a call out to you the Spurs faithful to support Richy and cast a vote for him to become the Premier League's inaugural Player of the week - and that is exactly what you did.

You voted for our number nine in your droves for the Brazilian to a point where he ultimately won the contest with 7% more of the vote than any of the other players.

Richy took home 27% of the vote, edging Sunderland's Dan Ballard (20%) and Liverpool's Hugo Ekitike (18%).

Congratulations, Richy!
